Traveling to Pondicherry (aka Puducherry) is a lifelong dream for many - solo travelers, families, and friends. If not the perfect weather that promises cool winds, pleasant warmth, and sunny beaches, it is the rich history of the place that attracts thousands each year. Travel by flight, train, or car, and begin what will be one of the most memorable trips of your lives.
Another good thing that came out of this fine choice was their manager, Krishna, who so very kindly directed us to a two-wheeler rental place for making it easier for us to move around the city since auto-rickshaws hardly gave us the autonomy we so desired. There are plenty of rental shops you can choose from and the one we picked offered the cheapest possible rate per day for off-season travellers (fuel own), so it's best to make an informed choice. , and finding a comfy rock to lounge upon was as easy as can be.
We happened upon the cutest little house on airbnb in the city; a five-minute ride from the famous Rock beach with its blackened, rocky shores, by the name of The House of Blue Mangoes. Upon arriving, we were directed to our French-inspired antique private room in a three-bed establishment with its own backyard and garden. The house was fitted with a fully-equipped kitchen offering breakfast and little games; bookshelves with plenty of bestsellers were accessible to guests; and, a courtyard flush with abundant greenery made for a lovely spot for our evening tea. It was more than we could have asked for especially since it hardly put a dent in our bank accounts.

Experience of a lifetime: We were (un)lucky enough to catch the thunderstorm while on our way to Auroville - the day we planned to tour the majestic Matrimandir, of course we couldn't. After getting utterly drenched in the rain and endless bouts of unseemly laughter donning the latest in macintosh fashion, we ended up making a day of it. Endless brownies, cakes, and hot coffee set the scene for a rainy day at Auroville's cafe; fast-forward five hours and we finally made our way back home.
My first time travelling in India with a friend/sister and I have to say it was a fulfilling experience with plenty of exceptional food, excellent company, and spectacular scenes in resplendent and laid-back Pondicherry.
